Budget, Rustic, Peaceful Getaway in NC

Rustic chic at it’s best. Peaceful and quiet, TV-less, Wifi access rooms and suites feature iPod clocks, Aveda bath products, spa treatments, yoga classes, outdoor pool, European pastries every morning, wine and cheese every evening – you’re already ready to go, aren’t you? How about the beautiful mountain area with hiking, kayaking, horseback riding, biking, etc. Imagine all that for $79 a night…. I was pleasantly thrilled to locate this gem of a remodeled 1950’s inn located in the historic backcountry area of Bryson City, North Carolina for our anniversary. Locally owned eateries, a small, resort-like Mediterranean ambience and spa-infused atmosphere creates the perfect peaceful getaway to the Blue Ridge Mountains. When we return, I will let y’all know how much we enjoyed Lakeview at Fontana.

Post-Stay UPDATE: Definitely recommended. Not only were the rooms quaint (though budget decor, to be sure), the location was fantastic. Perched on the side of a mountain, the large deck was perfect for enjoying a view of the lake while sipping on sangria, crackers and cheese and a sunny afternoon. The little cafe which served afternoon refreshment and breakfast (complete with french press coffee!) was delightfully reminiscent of a Mediterranean shop. It did seem a little chintzy in the room, though we enjoyed the Aveda toiletries. There was no Ipod alarm clock in our room as advertised and the shower had a small stream running out at all times no matter how hard we turned the handle. Lastly, the staff was a little…absent. It was nice to feel as if we were alone…but it was also a little uncomfortable to wonder if they were peeping out at us from the staff room!

All in all, 5 of 5 stars for value and comfort; 3 of 5 stars for friendliness and ease; 4 of 5 stars for extras (afternoon refreshment was delightful)
