No V-8 Isn’t That Good For You…

I don’t know how many people have made the comment to me that V8 juice is “just so good for you….”

Honestly, it can’t be as bad as a Diet Coke, but it’s not THAT good for you. Check out the ingredients:

Tomato Juice from Concentrate (Water, Tomato Paste), Reconstituted Vegetable Juice Blend (Water and Concentrated Juices of Carrots, Celery, Beets, Parsley, Lettuce, Watercress, Spinach), Lemon Juice from Concentrate (Water, Lemon Juice Concentrate), Salt, Natural Flavoring, Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), Citric Acid.

Salt?? In a juice? Second, Ascorbic Acid is NOT Vitamin C. It’s a synthetic known to cause cancer in mice (yes I know, we’re not mice, but cancer is nothing to roll your eyes at). V8 Splash even has high-fructose corn syrup….!

Eating fresh, raw, organic vegetables is always going to be the number one way to get vegetables. Frozen is second best, because they typically freeze the freshest crops and use the rest for canned. Canned – what’s the point, all the nutrients have been heat-waved out of them.

But if you’re like me, and fresh vegetables requiring trips to the farmers market an hour away, a walk-up to a house on the side of the busy road, a trip to the farm 20 miles away, or multiple trips to the grocery store each week for second-rate produce aren’t your passion and joy, here are some alternatives to adding that round of vegetables (and in some cases fruits) to your diet.

Juice Plus – capsules, chewables, powder drink and even an Antioxidant berry blend.

Zoegetics – like CrystalLite drink packets, perfect for popping into a water bottle on the go.

GoGreens – Another drink packet, and they also have a green tea and omega (and more) varieties.

It may not seem like you “REALLY” need it…but you do. Better to keep your engine running smoothly now in your 20’s and 30’s so that it won’t choke out during your 60’s. I don’t know about you, but the worst thing I can imagine is sitting in a nursing home at 80 drooling on myself. If I can help prevent some of that by eating a little better, drinking a lot better, and hopefully save some time and effort with these types of veggie/fruit intake boosters – it’s worth it!
